It seems to be a lifetime Since we lost our way Making holes in the water When we should have been making hay We were tied in knots and we’d lost the plot Had nothing left inside Then a wind sprang from the ether And took us with the tide We were “playing the band” With the moonlight in our eyes Never took a thing But we were high, high, high And no-one even noticed If the sun rose in the sky At the Festival at the End of the World At the Festival at the End of the World Then the music swirled like a sail unfurled And carried us far from shore And its eddies took us places Where we’d never been before We didn’t know who was playing what Didn’t even know who was who We were right on time, we remembered each line And our strings knew what to do We were” playing the band” With the moonlight in our eyes Never took a thing But we were high, high, high And no-one even noticed If the sun rose in the sky At the Festival at the End of the World At the Festival at the End of the World Our minds were in a different place Our bodies didn’t seem to care Never saw an audience But everyone was there And we feel the bass, and we see your face In the corners of our eyes Time is flowing sideways And nothing really dies Time is flowing sideways And nothing really dies It’s the Festival At The End of the World We were “playing the band” With the moonlight in our eyes Never took a thing But we were high, high, high And no-one even noticed If the sun rose in the sky At the Festival at the End of the World At the Festival at the End of the World

You’ve got a tribal mind, and you come out at night Livin’ in the past, and spoiling for a fight Don’t give a prayer for anybody who’s alive Don’t even care if the species survives Guess there ain’t no use in pretence You got money but you ain’t got no sense And how’ve you got the nerve to wave that rag around? Tear the ensign down! You’ve got a greedy face my friend Never learned nothin’ but you know how to spend Had a lot of talent, pissed it down the drain Struttin’ like a hooker in a penny arcade Guess there ain’t no use in pretence You got money but you ain’t got no sense And how’ve you got the nerve to wave that rag around? Tear the ensign down! So hide in your mansion, hide in your cell Tower block or gatehouse on the road to Hell Measure your success in razor wire Drink yourself stupid while the city’s on fire Guess there ain’t no use in pretence You got money but you ain’t got no sense And how’ve you got the nerve to wave that rag around? Tear the ensign down!

There’s a new dawn breaking in the east There’s a freight train rolling from the coast Mississippi down to the Rio Grande Every little town in the golden land Flags are flying way down low And we’re off to see the Wild West Show We’re off to see the Wild West Show When there’s a change in the weather We’ll all go down together And we’re off to see the Wild West Show There’s a huckster shouting from his stand There’s a preacher raving at the crowd Holding out his hands to the eastern sky Sucking on the well till the well runs dry Time is short but he don’t know And we’re off to see the Wild West Show We’re off to see the Wild West Show When there’s a change in the weather We’ll all go down together And we’re off to see the Wild West Show See the wild beast straining at the bars With a rage nobody can control Many had to die so that he could thrive Enemies are keeping him alive And he can’t distinguish friend from foe So we’re off to see the Wild West Show We’re off to see the Wild West Show When there’s a change in the weather We’ll all go down together We’re off to see the Wild West Show

There’s a line but I think we’ve crossed it Now we’re right up against the wire There’s a way but I think we’ve lost it One false turn, and it’s ice or fire I can’t shut out the world no more I know that the worm is turning I hear their voices outside my door Saying let me in ‘cause the ground is burning We pour the wine, we light the candles We ride the train to another land But there’s a sign and there’s a dead man’s handle Waiting for a dead man’s hand You go through hell to be so holy You work like the devil to be so dumb You sound like a sage but your thoughts are lazy You strut like a peacock, but you’re under their thumb And when the captain is just a rich man’s whore And all his cannons are rolling round on deck And his praise, well it ain’t worth fighting for Is it any wonder that the ship gets wrecked? You’re on your own, and now you’re stranded No response to your command Just a sign and a dead man’s handle Waiting for a dead man’s hand And O my daughter will you be there When they fight for water, food and air? And O my son will you still come When we’re at rock bottom and the race is run? So take these sins and wash them away Let these errors be your guide When the night comes in, never let them say We had the knowledge but we locked it inside And when the time has gone for anger And making lines, making lines, in the sand, in the san There’s a sign and there’s a dead man’s handle Waiting for a dead man’s hand

If they asked you You’d pull down the stars And snuff them one by one You get the job done You get the job done You’d swing your hammer Till the end of the world Cos that’s the team you’re on You get the job done You get the job done You say I’d stand with the angels But they don’t represent me I’m thinking right but I’m doing wrong It’s just the way it’s got to be Tell me what you want You’ll get it on a plate I’m just a hired gun I get the job done I get the job done Here in the compound you’ve been happy for a while Did you think it came from a wink and a smile? And by just being friendly to everyone? I get the job done. There’s an ugly mob chanting outside the city gate They’re hoping for a death worse than fate No pity in their hearts - so they will find none No, they will find none So drink to the bad girls wherever they may be And drink to the bad men who’re keeping you free We’ll never get a medal, or thanks from anyone, But we get the job done I’d like to vote for the angels But they don’t represent me I’m thinking right but I’m doing wrong It’s just the way it’s got to be Tell me what you want You’ll get it on a plate I’m just a hired gun I get the job done I get the job done

Take it slowly Move on easy When you’re taking your place Time to own up You’re a grown up You’ve got lines on your face Find a little bit Find a little bit Find a little bit of space in your heart Give it all away Shake it all away Give away a little place in your heart There’s no hurry This is your time You can make it alone Take this feeling There’s a meaning You can make it your own Find a little bit Find a little bit Find a little bit of peace in your mind Give it all away Shake it all away Give away a little piece of your mind Give it all away Make it all the way

When the train leaves the rails And reality fails And nothing around you is right When there’s barely a change Yet everything’s strange You’re in the Dominion of Light When you walk through the park Alone in the dark Though the sky up above you is bright When the lamp light is glowing You know that you’re going Into the Dominion of Light Then the wind whips the fallen leaves through the air All of a sudden you’re aware that she’s there With the last evening rays making ghosts in her hair….. Then the wind whips the fallen leaves through the air All of a sudden you’re aware that she’s there With the last evening rays making ghosts in her hair You drown in her powder blue eyes And she says I know who you are This is your world and it’s of your own making This is a world where there’ll be no more faking This is a world where you know you’re forsaken This is the world where one day you’ll awaken In the Dominion of Light This is your world and it’s of your own making Here in this world there can be no more faking This is a world where you know you’re forsaken This is the world where one day you’ll awaken In the Dominion of Light In the Dominion of Light In the Dominion of Light When the train leaves the rails And reality fails And nothing around you is right When there’s barely a change Yet everything’s strange You’re in the Dominion of Light In the Dominion of Light In the Dominion of Light In the Dominion of . . .

I’m in love with a girl on my computer We’ll never meet, but it’s safe to say That so long as I pay my subscription She’ll be mine night and day She doesn’t have a lot of conversation But it’s not what you hear, it’s what you see And I’m in love with a girl on my computer ‘Cause when she speaks, she speaks to me And she says oh baby, listen to me baby No one else would ever do Nobody can touch my keys like you And she says oh baby, you can see me baby If you log on in the morning too ‘Cause nobody turns me on like you I’m in love with a girl on my computer I don’t think she uses her real name But why should I judge her occupation? And why should I feel ashamed? ‘Cause what she does is for my own observation And she’s only just a fingertip away And as long as that red light’s shining She’ll be mine night and day And she says oh baby, listen to me baby No one else would ever do Nobody can touch my keys like you And she says oh baby, you can see me baby If you log on in the morning too ‘Cause nobody turns me on like you And I’m losing touch with all my friends and family With pizza boxes littering the ground But I’m in love with a girl on my computer And I’m hoping word won’t get around Girl on my computer, girl on my computer Nobody can tear me away from you Girl on my computer, girl on my computer Nobody turns me on like you

about

A contemporary collection from Tony Doré and Simon Burrett.

Tony founded the 70s psych-folk outfit Tony, Caro and John, whose homespun album "All On The First Day" is now being re-released for the third time.

Simon joined the original gigging TCJ band and is a regular performer today with his rock band The Blue Bishops. After more years than they care to count, Tony and Simon found to their amazement that they could write together - and wondered why they took so long to get round to it.

about

Tony, Caro and John London, UK

The band, a slightly bizarre combination of ex-folkies (Tony, Julie, Caro), electronics aficionados (John, Rod) and R & B types (Simon, Jonny), one that has persisted through numerous spin-off bands, the loss of several drummers, onstage electrocutions, and long expatriations to Norway, Holland, Spain and the USA. ... more
